Mystery at the Final Four

Author's Note: For Author's Note we had to pick a book that we had finished, and describe the main conflict and its resolution. We had to make sure that the conflict was clear and that is was the main focus of the piece. The book is called "The Last Shot" by John Feinstein. If you want to learn more about the novel, ..... read it!

Stevie and Susan Carol, two high school students, win a writing contest; therefore they win a trip to the Final Four. Minnesota St. is the surprise team in the Final Four.  After an impressive performance from their star player Chip, they are in the final game of March Madness. Stevie and Susan Carol get right to work, trying their hardest to ask Chip some burning questions. In the process, they also learn some other news that they did not want to hear. Someone has blackmailed Chip. If Chip, the star of MSU and son of the head coach, dosen't blow the game his dad would lose his job; also losing all of their wins that season too. This is the main conflict in the story.

Stevie and Susan Carol are not known for staying low, they are reporters, so they like to dig deep into ground breaking topics, ie. blackmailing. But when they turn to the wrong person, they end up trapped. This is also a prime example of cause and effect because the blackmailing led to the kidnapping of Stevie and Susan Carol. Chip, with all of the publicity he's getting, stumbles onto the kidnapping and squeezes Stevie and Susan Carol out of the situation. Thankfully, the teen reporters were able to get down to court level to see Chip hit the game winning shot for his team, and more importantly, his loving father.
